All eyes are on Rio de Janeiro as Neymar Jr faces a defining moment in his international career. At 2 AM tonight, Brazil head coach Carlo Ancelotti will announce the final squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, and Neymar’s name is once again at the center of global debate.

Since the 2022 World Cup, Neymar has endured a difficult spell marked by repeated injuries and long absences. Over the past four years, he has reportedly missed more than 100 matches and spent over 800 days sidelined, raising serious concerns about his long-term fitness and reliability at the highest level.

Even after returning to his boyhood club Santos in search of rhythm and fitness, consistency has remained an issue. Although he has shown flashes of quality this season with goals and assists, questions about his physical condition continue to follow him.

Tension increased further after Neymar was forced off early in Santos’ recent match against Coritiba, just days before the squad announcement. The timing has added uncertainty to Ancelotti’s already difficult decision.

Brazil’s situation is complicated by injuries to key attacking options such as Rodrygo and Estevão, which could open the door for Neymar’s inclusion based on experience and leadership. However, Ancelotti, known for his discipline and tactical structure, is expected to prioritize current fitness and system compatibility over reputation.

Neymar himself remains confident, stating in a recent mixed-zone interview that he feels physically strong and mentally calm after overcoming many setbacks. He insists he is ready to contribute if called upon.

The big question remains: will Brazil rely on Neymar’s experience for one last World Cup push, or will Ancelotti accelerate the transition toward a younger generation?

The answer will be revealed tonight.
